FAQS
What is lifestyle medicine?
Lifestyle medicine is an emerging medical specialty that is evidence-based and uses a holistic approach to treat chronic disease and prevent disease. At its core, lifestyle medicine relies on six pillars as a primary modality to treat root causes. These six pillars, or therapeutic lifestyle interventions, include: nutrition, physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, meaningful social connections, and avoidance of risky substances.
How does lifestyle medicine differ from traditional medical practice?
Lifestyle medicine uses therapeutic lifestyle interventions as a primary modality to prevent disease, manage chronic disease, and reverse chronic disease while traditional medicine often uses medications and procedures as a primary modality to treat symptoms and disease. The two often work in tandem to enhance overall health.
Who can benefit from a lifestyle medicine consult?
Quite simply, everyone! If you are generally healthy and looking to enhance your overall health and well-being and take a proactive role in preventing illness and chronic disease, you will benefit. If you have chronic disease, such as hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, obesity or an autoimmune disorder, you will also benefit. Treatment plans are thoughtfully customized to each patient’s unique health needs and personal goals.
Can Dr. Renaldo be my primary care physician?
You’ll still keep your primary care doctor for routine things, and I’ll focus on helping you improve your health, reduce medications, and prevent disease through lifestyle medicine. I’m still here for you – just in a different way.
What can I expect on my first visit?
Your first visit will include a comprehensive intake of your medical history. We will discuss your goals and any concerns and devise a treatment plan. At this time, basic or specialty labs may be ordered. You are welcome to bring any recent labs or diagnostics you wish to discuss.
Please allow for 60-90 minutes for your initial consultation.
When should I schedule a follow up visit?
A follow up visit is recommended two to four weeks after the initial consultation; however, this will depend on your individual assessment and goals. Follow up visits are designed to discuss lab results and assess your progress, answer any questions you may have, and adjust your treatment plan as necessary.
Regularly scheduled follow ups are key to assessing your progress, measuring your success, and keeping you on track. Follow up visits can range anywhere from every six weeks to quarterly and will depend on your specific goals, your commitment, and your progress.
Will my insurance cover a lifestyle medicine consultation and/or subsequent visits?
